Fibreco manages the supply and distribution of three different species of wood chips (SPF, Lodgepole Pine and Douglas Fir).
Wood chips are primarily a by-product of sawmills and intended for the production of chemical pulp. Wood chips are also produced by whole log chippers to help meet high levels of demand. Each type of wood chip has unique physical attributes that produce different pulp properties for different commercial use. Fibreco distributes wood chips primarily to Canadian and Japanese pulp mills.
Our wood chips conform to specific quality and size requirements, confirmed by an independent testing agency. Fibreco’s wood chips contain less than one per cent bark and less than one per cent rot by green weight. They are also substantially free of foreign material such as plastic and char. We guarantee a minimum of 90 per cent of the wood chips will be between 1 1/8” and 3/16” with no more than five per cent permitted either under 3/16” or over 1 1/8” per delivery.

Wood Pellet Handling
Wood pellets are a wood by-product generally made from compacted sawdust, shavings and logging residuals. They are uniform is size, shape, moisture, density and energy content. Fibreco stores and loads our customers’ wood pellets for shipment to Europe where they are used primarily as a biomass fuel to replace coal in electricity generation. Wood pellets are sold by the producers who contract with Fibreco for terminal services.
